about
Hello! Welcome to the dance blog of Antares (and burlesque/cabaret performer Luna Fey)!
As an aspiring professional dancer, I am using this medium to as a way to connect to the dancing community (as well as the general community) and express my various experiences coming into my own as a dancer.
A little bit about me and my dance history thus far: i am a Washington native, born & raised on the hood canal. when i was young I took ballet, tap dance, and some modern dance at Penninsula Dance Center in Bremerton.
In high school I diverted into a running craze that took me to college (almost forgetting dance altogether). My mom tells me that my excuse was that “ballerinas were mean” and that “I didn’t want to ruin my toes”. Logical reasoning i suppose.
In college I attempted to get back into dance by participating in the repertory dance group for a couple years. I felt incredibly uncoordinated and thoroughly ungraceful. What i hadn’t learned yet was that grace comes from strength, and that was clearly my problem. What i needed to find was a form of dance that i enjoyed and would help me to learn how to truly feel at one with my body.
I had always wanted to try belly dance (especially after my hips developed!) so finally and really quite simply…I just showed up at Visionary Dance in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle and started taking classes. My first class was june 30th, 2008 with the illustrious Laura Rose (her techno belly class). I LOVED it. and I’ve been dancing since.
What I would like to do now is develop the fine tuning skills to perform. I’m not a stranger to the stage, but I’m a new belly dancer so this is a growing process for me. this blog finds me almost a full year into my belly dance. welcome and thank you for following my progress!
